Human Resources Duties Distribution (FY27 Update)

Human Resources duties and tasks related to requesting HR services have evolved as UMD progressed as a PEAK Phase 1 unit. Centralization of tasks from various colleges, units, and departments into the UMD HR department occurred prior to Phase 1, with additional centralization to the Twin Cities campus occurring during Phase 1.

This distribution was originally captured in the Post-PEAK UMD HR Current State Duties Distribution Document (Fall 2024). Current post-PEAK processes and responsibilities have been updated in this revised document and will be revisited every 24 months to ensure ongoing accuracy.

Academic HR: Encompasses responsibilities and duties that support the academic processes within the four colleges at UMD.

Talent Acquisition (TA): Encompasses responsibilities and duties which support the posting of positions, as well as interviewing, selection, and hiring of new employees.

Learning, Development, & Recognition: Encompasses initial employee training, professional development, performance management, and recognition.

Compensation & Classification: Encompasses responsibilities and duties involved with ensuring appropriate classification and compensation.

Employee & Labor Relations: Encompasses processes involved in dispute resolution, corrective action, grievance processes, contract negotiations, etc.

Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Encompasses both legal and policy compliance, including safety, UTAP, EOT, OGC, etc.

Payroll & Workforce Data Management: Encompasses process related to time entry and payroll, as well as most TDX entry.
